Corinna Rose ------> Corey Gulkin

Gorgeous header photo by Stacy Lee Photo.

Corinna Rose and I have had a sweet run, but I've been pushing my music forward and it's time to do the same with my name.

It was always a little strange to have a semi-pseudonym - Corinna Rose being my first and middle names that no one had really called me since birth. It gave me the space and courage to own the stage, to belt it out, and to do it anyway, even when I didn't know how. Yet, the name has also been splitting me in two - the stage/ business version of myself, vs. my 'real life' self. While this used to be a comfort, I've been feeling that the name puts distance between myself and my music, both present and future.

The new album is inching ever closer to being finished; it's more intricate, weird and personal than anything I have made to date, and it is undeniably close to me. It is something I can only truly connect to as Corey Gulkin.

I know it will take a moment to settle in to it, but it will be worth it.

Stay tuned, new video and tour dates coming soon. <3

GAMIQ Nomination, Ontario Shows

The Wharf has been nominated for Folk EP of the Year by GAMIQ (Le gala de l'association de la musique indépendante du Québec). The Gala takes place on November 27th, wish us luck!

The new album, All The Things I'll Forget has been recorded and is in the mixing process. It won't be out for a while yet, but keep your eyes peeled for sneak previews, singles and videos.

Leah Dolgoy (harp), Sam Gleason (electric guitar) and I will be travelling to Toronto (Dec 2) and Hamilton (Dec 3) to play a couple of shows to practice new material. It's weird, dark and walks on the edges of folk. Hope you enjoy.

Seasons, Changes

This year has been somewhat of a quiet year, at least on social media, and I have certainly neglected this blog. I haven't been touring, or playing many shows, but this year has been one of writing, concentration and reflection. It's been extraordinarily challenging but I am excited to say that in two weeks I will finally be recording my second full length album.

Corinna Rose as a musical project is changing - it's becoming darker, more focused and intricate. I'll be leaving the hoe-down songs behind, but I hope this will pave the way for new creativity and cohesion. I'll have much more to say and share in the coming months, but I wanted to take this moment to invite you all to a sneak preview of what's to come.

On Saturday September 30th, I'll be opening up for Jenny Berkel at La Vitrola in MTL, in my new trio formation of Leah Dolgoy (on full fledged harp) and Sam Gleason (electric guitar). We'll be playing all new material, fresh out of studio. It is also the launch of Jenny's entrancing new album Pale Moon Kid (if you haven't listened to her record yet, go do it!). Manymany thanks to KickDrum for presenting this show.
